The Battle in Your Mind

Family, we are in a spiritual warfare.  Satan comes against us by way of our mind.  He plants thoughts, ideas, and suggestions that go against the Word of God to try to steal, kill, and destroy us.  In First John 2:15-17 we are warned, “Stop loving this evil world [system] and all that it offers you, for when you love these things you show that you do not really love God; for all these worldly things, these evil desires—the craze for sex, the ambition to buy everything that appeals to you, and the pride that comes from wealth and importance—these are not from God.  They are from this evil world [system] itself.  And this world [system] is fading away, and these evil, forbidden things will go with it, but whoever keeps doing the will of God will live forever.”

As a Christian you have the authority in Jesus to keep your thoughts under control.  Romans 12:1-2 tells us to give your bodies to God.  Let them be a living sacrifice, holy.  Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this evil world system but renew the mind with God’s Word.  Here are some simple principles to follow to keep Satan under your feet.

Principle #1: Our Thoughts Always Proceed Our Actions—(Ephesians 6:10-17)

Whatever we have been dwelling on that is what will direct our actions.  This is why we must to be careful what we hear and see because these senses feed into our minds and formulate thoughts which will eventually direct our actions.

Principle #2:  Bible Knowledge Used Properly Always Wins Battles—(Psalm 1:1-3;James 1:25)

It is not enough for us to just read the Bible.  We are responsible for studying and then rightly dividing the Truth so that we can apply Bible knowledge properly.  This takes our individual time, and effort through the leading of the Holy Spirit.  Remember you do not know something until you are doing it and benefiting from your action.

Principle #3:  Ignorance & Victory Cannot Co-habitat—(Hosea 4:6; 2 Corinthians 2:11)

When it comes to the things of God what you do not know and or do not apply will kill you.  Satan will make sure of that because he is always seeking for someone he may devour.  This is the reason why he fights you when you decide to read and study the Bible. He will distract you with the issues of life. Satan wants God’s people ignorant of their rights in Jesus!

Principle #4:    A Look into our past will help us to understand our Present Situation—(Philippians 3:12-14)

Make a habit of doing right and not wrong.  Because what you do today will affect your future.  Remember, God loves you, so don’t fall into Satan’s condemnation and guilt.  However, we must do a self-examination so that we don’t continue repeating old sins.  Do ask God for forgiveness; stop sinning and be obedient to His Word.

Principle #5:    Our Thoughts Bring Life or Death—(Ephesians 4:17-24)

Don’t let your thoughts get out of control.   All the problems we get into are caused by the evil thoughts, ideas, and suggestions brought to us by Satan.  We cannot stop the negative thoughts from coming, but we can keep them from affecting our actions.  We have free wills and we have the authority to say “no” to Satan, so let’s keep our minds washed with the Living Word of God.  Amen.
