The Battle in Your Mind

Warning! We are in a never-ending spiritual warfare. Satan, our enemy, comes against us by way of our mind. He plants thoughts and suggestions that go against God’s Word to try to steal, kill, and destroy us. First John 2:15-17 says, “Stop loving this evil world [system] and all that it offers you, for when you love these things you show that you do not really love God; for all these worldly things, these evil desires—the craze for sex, the ambition to buy everything that appeals to you, and the pride that comes from wealth and importance—these are not from God. They are from this evil world [system] itself. And this world [system] is fading away, and these evil, forbidden things will go with it, but whoever keeps doing the will of God will live forever.”

Good News! Christians have the authority in Jesus to keep your thoughts under control and as a result Satan under our feet. Romans 12:1-2 tells us to renew the mind with God’s Word and be victorious over Satan. Here are some principles to follow:

Principle #1: Our Thoughts Always Proceed Our Actions—(Ephesians 6:10-17)
Whatever we dwell on will direct our actions. We must be careful what we hear and see because these senses feed into our minds and formulate thoughts which direct our actions— good or bad.

Principle #2: Bible Knowledge Used Properly Wins Battles—(Ps. 1:1-3; James 1:25)
We are responsible for studying and then rightly dividing the Truth so that we apply Bible knowledge properly. This takes time and effort through the leading of the Holy Spirit. Remember you do not know something until you are doing it and benefiting from your action.

Principle #3: Ignorance & Victory Cannot Co-habitat—(Hosea 4:6; 2 Corinthians 2:11)
What you do not know of God’s Word or not applied will kill you. Satan will make sure of it because he is always seeking for someone to devour. This is the reason why he distracts you when you decide to read and study the Bible. Satan wants us ignorant of our rights in Jesus!

Principle #4:Our Past Will Help Us to Understand Our Present Situation—(Phil. 3:12-14)
Make a habit of doing right and not wrong. What you do today will affect your future. God loves you, so don’t fall into Satan’s condemnation and guilt. Do a self-examination and stop repeating old sins. Do ask God for forgiveness and then be obedient to His Word.

Principle #5:Our Thoughts Bring Life or Death—(Ephesians 4:17-24)
We must keep our thoughts under control. All the problems we get into are caused by the evil thoughts, ideas, and suggestions Satan’s plants in our mind. We cannot stop the negative thoughts from coming, but we can keep them from affecting our actions. We have a free will and Christinas have the authority to say “no” to Satan, so keep your mind renewed with God’s Word daily.
